USAID Experts Find LF-500 Chlorinator "Appropriate" for Haiti

Two consultants to the U.S. Agency for International Development presented an evaluation of the Norweco LF-500 chlorinator for use in Haitian villages. Daniele Lantagne of the Center for Disease Control and Dr. Rochelle Rainey of U.S. AID found the benefits of the chlorinator to be a simple chlorine system, low-cost, with only one point of intervention for each community to provide "appropriately dosed chlorinated water." Lantagne and Rainey recommended that USAID connect our program to the InterAmerican Development Bank rural infrastructure programs in Haiti. However, Rainey and Lantagne noted that the IA Clean Water Campaign for Haiti requires training of operators and community organizations in testing chlorine levels and maintenance of the system.
